Thefertileeggsweremeasured bycandlingatday7ofincubation. TheselectioncriterionintheSlinewastheBLUPanimal modelvalueforF.Onaverage,24.7%ofthefemalesand15%ofthemaleswereselected. The directresponsestotheselectionforF,andcorrelatedresponsesforthenumberofeggsset(Ie), thenumberoftotaldeadembryos(M),themaximumdurationoffertility(Dm)andthenumber ofhatchedmuleducklings(H)weremeasuredbystudyingthedifferencesacrossthegenerations ofselectionbetweenthephenotypicvalueaveragesintheSandClines.
