Methods:AspartoftheYoungWomen’sHealthStudy,aprospectiveobservationalstudyofyoungwomen(15-29 years)engagedinsexworkinPhnomPenh,weconductedin-depthinterviews(n=33)toexplorevulnerabilityto HIV/STIandrelatedharms.InterviewswereconductedinKhmerbytrainedinterviewers,transcribedandtranslated intoEnglishandanalysedforthematiccontent. Results:Theintensificationofanti-prostitutionandanti-traffickingeffortsinCambodiahasincreasedthenumberof womenworkinginentertainmentvenuesandonthestreet.Ourresultsconfirmthatstreet-basedsexworkplaces womenatriskofHIV/STIinfectionandidentifysignificantenvironmentalrisksrelatedtoentertainment-basedsex work,includinglimitedaccesstocondomsandalcohol-relatedintoxication.Ourdataalsoindicatethatexposureto violenceandinteractionswiththepolicearemediatedbythesettingsinwhichsexissold.Inparticular, transactingsexinenvironmentssuchasguesthouseswherethereislittleornooversightintheformofpeeror managerialsupportorprotection,mayincreasevulnerabilitytoHIV/STI.
