Study of zebrafish craniofacial development has contributed substantially to understanding of cartilage and boneformationinteleosts,butthereiscurrentlylittleinformationonNCcontributiontothezebrafishskeleton.Here,we employatwo–transgenesystembasedonCrerecombinasetogeneticallylabelNCinthezebrafish.WedemonstrateNC contributiontocellsinthecranialgangliaandperipheralnervoussystemknowntobeNC–derived,aswellastoasubsetof myocardialcells.TheindeliblelabelingalsoenablesustodetermineNCcontributiontolate–formingbones,includingthe calvariae.WeconfirmsuspectedNCoriginofcartilageandbonesoftheviscerocranium,includingcartilagessuchasthe hyosymplecticanditsreplacementbones(hymandibulaandsymplectic)andmembranousbonessuchastheopercle.The cleithrumdevelopsattheborderofNCandmesoderm,andasanancestralcomponentofthepectoralgirdlewaspredicted tobeahybridbonecomposedofbothNCandmesodermtissues.However,wefindnoevidenceofaNCcontributionto thecleithrum.Similarly,inthevaultoftheskull,theparietalbonesandthecaudalportionofthefrontalbonesshowno evidenceofNCcontribution.Wealsodetermin
