Pengetal.DiagnosticPathology2011,6:127 /content/6/1/127 CASE REPORT OpenAccess Skullbasemetastasesfromamalignantsolitary fibroustumoroftheliver.Acasereportand literaturereview LuPeng,YangLiu,YongbiaoAi,ZhisuLiu,YuemingHeandQuanyanLiu* Abstract Solitaryfibroustumors(SFTs)oftheliverarerarelydescribed;only38caseshavebeenreportedinliterature,most ofwhichhaveshownbenignclinicalcharacteristics,andonly3ofthesecasesexhibitedmalignantvariants.Inthis study,wepresenta24-year-oldwomanwitha1-monthhistoryofarapidlyenlargingabdominalmassandaCT showinganexophyticheterogeneouslivermasswithafirmparietalbonemass.Thepatientunderwenta transcatheterarterialchemoembolization(TACE)beforeoperation,andanextendedrighthepatectomyand craniectomywithanegativemarginwasperformedundergeneralanesthesia.Themassesshowedhistological featuresofovalspindlecellshaphazardlyarrangedintheclassicshort-storiformorso-calledpatternlesspatternof solitaryfibroustumors.ThetumorcellsshowedpositiveimmunohistochemicalreactionstoCD34andbcl-2.The tumorrecurredintheresidualliver2monthsafteroperation,metastaticosteoblasticlesionsinthethoracicand lumbarvertebraewereidentified3monthsaftertheoperation,andlumbarvertebraemetastasis7monthsafter operationparalyzedthepatient.Thepatientunderwentpercutaneousethanolinjectiontherapy(PEI)and chemotherapy,butthepatientdiedbecauseoftheuncontrolledtumor16monthsaftertheinitialoperation.To ourknowledge,thisisthefirstcaseofmalignantsolitaryfibrouslivertumorswithskeletalmetastasis.
