They shared with me their experiences of writing a thesis, and offered me guidance throughout the writing process. iv ABSTRACT As a giant of literature, Shakespeare enjoys a prestige of everlasting glamour, along with his infinitely brilliant works. Voluminous works on Shakespearean Criticism have been conducted for centuries. Focusing on his romantic works As You Like It and Twelfth Night , this thesis will probe into the carnival features against the official dogma through the lenses of postmodernist approach, with the explication that Shakespeare well deconstructs and subverts the long established social conventions, pointing out that the depiction of the carnival world is merely a method other than a purpose.
