A bstract: The applicable law of international( foreign) arbitration agree ents has beco e the ain concerns in recent
years in Chinese practice ofarbitration and tria.l W hile the legislation ofChinahave not yet ade specificprovisions on this
atter, but Chinas approvalwas in 1987 involving the atter to the ajor international conventions- the New York Con-
vention. The essay focused on the legislation of the Convention itself related to the legalvalidity of the for and substance
of the arbitration agree ent and international law acade ics and the authority of national courts to interpret the Convention,
and it also paid particular attention to the 20 years Chinese judicial practiceunder the Convention on the law applicable to
the arbitration agree ent and concerning issues.
