THE CONFEDERATION AND THE CONSTITUTION Constitutional Convention United States Constitution CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION The Philadelphia Convention (now also known as the Constitutional Convention) took place from May 25 to September 17, 1787, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to address problems in governing the United States of America, which had been operating under the Articles of Confederation following independence from Great Britain. 辛苗苗 CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA The Constitution defines the three branches of the national government: a legislature, the bicameral Congress; an executive branch led by the President; and a judicial branch headed by the Supreme Court. The Constitution specifies the powers and duties of each branch.
