His famous dramas are: Tamburlaine (《铁木耳大帝》) (1588), Dr. Faustus (1589) and The Jew of Malta (1590), probably from which Shakespeare got some inspirations for his writing. Marlowe successfully employed Blank Verse in his drama, which became an established form in drama from then on. Critics admired “Marlowe’s Mighty Line.” He created the Renaissance hero for English drama. Such a hero is always individualistic and full of ambition, facing bravely the challenge from both gods and men. He embodies Marlowe’s humanistic ideal of human dignity and capacity. Different from the tragic hero in medieval plays, who seeks the way to heaven through salvation and God’s will, he is against conventional morality and contrives to obtain heaven on earth through his own efforts. Tamburlaine and Faustus are typical in possessing the humanistic spirit. Shakespeare’s four great tragedies Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth, King Lear “Sonnet 18” destructive power of time and the eternal beauty brought forth by poetry to the one he loves. The Renaissance in the World Originated in Italy in the 14C and came to a flowery in the 15C and later spread to France, Germany, Spain, Holland and Belgium and England in the 16C. Marked by the rediscovery and study of the classics of ancient Greece and Rome, by challenging feudal obscurantism (蒙昧主义) and religious dogmas, by opposing the tyranny of feudal rules.
