Prometheus Unbound;Shelley ’ s greatest achievement is his four - act poetic drama , Prometheus unbound .The play is an exultant work in praise of humankind ’ s potential , and Shelley himself recognized it as “ the most perfect of my products . ”;Prometheus Unbound was created in the 1819, in Italy. It drew the material from ancient Greek and Rome mythology. ;Prometheus was the son of Iapetus and Clymene. He had ever helped Jupiter(Zeus) to be the God. However, Zeus broke his promise and wanted to destroyed human being. ;Character Image;Prometheus?also?was?distinguished?for?the?character?of?persistence?and?tolerance.?;In this work, Shelley expressed the opposition to despotism and tyranny. What’s more, he showed his political idea that praising the resisting struggle and looking forward a free and equal society. ;　In this long verse drama, Shelley also praised the collective spirit. Prometheuss victory resulted from not only his own noble qualities, but also his great allies in the world — he is supported by Mother Earth who gives him strength to endure all the sufferings and sends the spirits of heroes and martyrs to cheer him; His bride Asia, the spirit of love and goodness, “life of life,” awaits him in the distance and thus inspires him with a firm confidence in the final triumph of his just cause. Various spirits of Hope and Faith hover around him.
