Metaphor as a Speech Act in Drama Huang Lihua 2008年4月20日 School of Foreign Language in Shanghai Jiaotong University Metaphor as a Speech Act in Drama As we know, actions are generally called speech acts when they are performed by virtue of utterances. The speech act theory was first proposed by J. Austin (1962), the philosophy professor in Oxford University. The most important part of Austin’s speech act theory lies in his three related acts. The first is locutionary act which is an act of saying something. The second is illocutionary act which is an act performed in saying something.
