Abstract: the life cycle design of highway asphalt pavement, according to the principle of value engineering, in order to ensure the performance of asphalt pavement in good condition, appropriate to increase the construction cost, greatly reduce the pavement maintenance cost, prolong service life of the pavement, to reduce the cost of life.

0 Preface
With the rapid development of the national economy, the country has invested a great deal of resources in infrastructure construction. Highway industry as one of the infrastructure, is now developing at a rapid speed, the social road for high-quality, service performance requirements increasing, traffic safety, comfort and convenience has become the basic requirements of the people. However, with the rapid increase of traffic and traffic volume and the large tonnage of vehicles, as well as complex and changeable natural conditions, the deformation and damage of existing pavement structures are quite serious. In this way, it not only affects the service performance and life of the road, but also causes great economic losses to the road construction. Therefore, it is necessary to make further scientific research on pavement structure design.
1 main factors affecting pavement structure performance
The pavement structure should be firm and durable, the surface should be smooth, skid resistant and wearable. There are many factors that affect the pavement performance:
