Abstract Expression of Capn4 and its role in invasion and metastasis of clear cell renal cell carcinoma Expression of Capn4 and its role in invasion and metastasis of clear cell renal cell carcinoma Abstract Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the second most prevalent urological cancer，with 70% of patients are clear cell renal cell carcinoma （ccRCC ）.Metastasis is a major cause of death among RCC patients, but the mechanism is still unclear. The µ-form of the calpain family are widely expressed in mammals, which is heterodimers with a distinct catalytic subunit and a common regulatory subunit (Calpain small subunit-1, Capn4). Capn4 have been implicated in a variety of biological functions, including signal transduction, cell proliferation and cell differentiation. Furthermore, Capn4 has been shown high expression in some carcinoma, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and breast carcinoma, and to correlate with the metastasis/invasion of them. The relationship between Capn4 and RCC ，however ，have not been investigated at home and abroad. We therefore examined the expression of Capn4 in ccRCC tissues and cell lines, and analyzed the role and mechanism of Capn4 in ccRCC. Then, we evaluated its correlation with survival potential of ccRCC patients.
