Abstract UAE is an oil-rich country with prosperous economy. The UAE government attaches great importance to the development of cultural undertakings as well as economic construction. With the great efforts of more than thirty years, the stereotype of “the desert culture” has been changed thoroughly and the cultural undertakings are flourishing. Both the local cultural institutions whose main task is to spread popular culture and the high-level academic research institutes play a very important role in UAE’s development of cultural undertakings.
