Step 1Warm-up
Ask Ss some questions about sports Such as :
-Do you like sports? –What kind of sports do you like best? –Can you play it well? -Do you like playing basketball? –Can you show us how to play it?
Step 2 Lead in
Lesson 21-1.1
Ask the Ss to look at the phrases about basketball and the pictures. Then match them.
Step 3 Presentation
Ask Ss to read and understand the sentences and guess which ones are true.
Discuss in pairs
Read the passage in 1.3 to check if the predictions for 1.2 are right.
Read the passage again and try to find out some questions about the passage including the questions in 1.4, then ask and answer in pairs.
Retell the passage using several sentences
Step 4 Task 1
In pairs, talk about “Basketball playing is very popular in China”
Step 5 Lead in
Watch a short movie about NBA, then ask Ss to discuss some questions about NBA in pairs.
Step 6 Listening
Listen to the material for the first
time and answer the questions:
-Where are the speakers?
-Who is being interviewed?
-What are they talking about?
2. Listen to the material for the second time and circle True or False
3. Listen to the material for the third time and fill in the blanks
Step 7 Grammar learning
1. Practice using the object clauses to check the form, such as:
What does Drexler think of the Chinese players?
He thinks the Chinese players are great…
Show the grammar materials to summarize the grammar, the object clauses
Exercise the object clauses
Step 8 Task 2
Send up an interview form to each student, ask them to interview others about their learning English methods.
They can ask like this:Can you tell how many hours a day you study English?...
Then report by using the object clausesStep 9 Homework
