Basics of Business Writing 第一章 Words 一、名词的特殊用法（Special Uses of Nouns） 1.集体名词（Collective nouns） 描述人、事和物等群体，表示由若干个体组成的集合体。 Committee board majority staff family---- 在写作过程中，当这些集体名词作主语时，应分清这些集体名词代表的是一个整体，还是群体中的每个成员,然后再决定后面的系动词的单复数形式。 Eg: My family —— a big one. My family ——all teachers. 2、不可数名词（Uncountable nouns） water rice feeling happiness information------- 在写作中，后接单数动词。 3、复数形成（Plural form） 1）合成名词的复数形式 当合成名词的各组成部分拼写为一个但此时，其复数形式遵循一般名词变复数的规则，即直接在复合词后面加s或es。 bookshop football penfriend grandfather workbook newspaper keyboard necklace salesgirl --- 当合成名词中有一个中心词时，通常在该中心词后面按名词单复数的一般规则将其变为复数形式。 T-shirt，E-mail， self-respect，two-storey，mother-in-law, looks-on ---- 当合成词没有中心词，并且用连字符相连，直接在合成词最后加s. Pay-offs 补偿，set-ups 体制，cure-alls 万能药，go-betweens 中间商 4. 缩略词的复数形式一种是在缩略词后面直接加-s，但是s后需加“.”，如：原词 缩略词 复数year yr. yrs.Number No. Nos.有些缩略词的单复数形式是相同的，如：原词 缩略词 复数mile ml. ml.foot ft. ft. inch in. in. 由小写字母组成并在每个字母后带“.”的缩略词的复数，在其后加“’s”或直接加“s”，如：原词组 缩略词 复数cash on delivery c.o.d. c.o.d.’s/c.o.d.s由大写字母组成的缩略词，其复数形式为在其后直接加-s，如：原词组 缩略词 复数certified public accountant C.P.A. (CPA) C.P.A.s (CPAs) 二、动词特殊用法（Special Uses of Verbs） 主要掌握及物和不及物动词的区别，特殊系动词的用法，动词与主语的一致性，以及不定式、动名词和分词等动词的特殊形式。1、 有些动词只是及物动词; 它们不可以单独用，后面必须跟宾语。 False: They always want after lunch.Right: They always want a cup of tea after lunch False: He is sending now.Right: He is sending a letter now. 2、有些动词只是不及物动词；它们可以单独用，如果后面想接宾语，动词后面必须加上介词。 Right: He is looking around. False: He is looking me.Right: He is looking at me. Right: He is listening carefully.False: He is listening the teacher carefully.Right: He is listening to the teacher carefully. 3、有些动词既是及物动词，又是不及物动词; 但是有时候词义会改变。 The customer is asking loudly.The customer is asking for you now. The customer is asking a question now.
