China Abstract Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and clinical outcomes of emergency patients in observation room, in order to provide guidance for clinical emergency treatment. MethodsA total of 247 312 patients in observation room from January 2007 to December 2010 were included in this study. The age, gender, geographic distribution, disease type, time of disease onset, improvement rate, the percentage of hospitalization, and mortality of these patients were analyzed epidemiologically. ResultsThe number of patients increased every year except that in 2010, it decreased. Patients in towns and cities accounted for 91.5%. Patients within 20 to 40 years old accounted for 45.9%. Those within 40 to 60 years old accounted for 27.2%, and patients above 60 years accounted for 21.3%. Patients with disease of the respiratory system accounted for 42.4%. The number of patients with cardiovascular diseases increased, and they were mainly old people. The number of poisoning cases showed a downward trend. In June, July, an
