一、教学内容分析:
This is the first teaching period of this unit. The central part of this period is the reading passage with the name of Festivals and Celebrations showing the students some different festivals in the world. Reading introduces four kinds of festivals and celebrations held in the world. It tells the students why people celebrate them and what people usually do during that time. This section also introduces the students to different cultures in the world.
二、教学目标:
1. To know the meanings of the following new words and phrases appearing in this passage: take place, beauty, harvest, celebration, starve, origin, religious, ancestor, in memory of, feast, bone, belief, dress up, play a trick on, independence, gather, agricultural, rooster, admire, energetic, look forward to, day and night, Christian, as though, have fun with, custom.
2. To learn about some festivals and celebrations.
3. To learn how the information is organized.
4. To develop the students reading ability by skimming and scanning the passage.
5. To develop the students speaking ability by talking about festivals around the world.
6. To stimulate the students to love and study our traditional culture, and know something about foreign cultures.
7. To develop the students sense of cooperative learning.
三、教学重点和难点:
To enable the students to learn about some different festivals and to develop their reading ability.
四、教学过程:
Step 1 Warming up
1. Warming up by looking and talking.
Show the following pictures to the students and let them know about the festivals and celebrations held everywhere and talk about them.
Sample expressions:
Do you know the pictures above? Work in groups and list the festivals that you know. Discuss when they take place, what they celebrate and what people do at that time
