English abstractObjectiveBoth central obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease are important risk factors associated with the metabolic syndrome. We can observe that many people in absence of central obesity, but presence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease have metabolic syndrome. Thus, relative to the central obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver may be a better marker of metabolic syndrome. Through comparing the relationship between central obesity, fatty liver and metabolic syndrome, this study analyze which one is the better marker of metabolic syndrome.MethodWe analyzed the clinical data of 806 people in our hospital for medical examination from March, 2011 to April, 2011. According to whether is in the presence or absence of central obesity and whether is in the presence or absence of non-alcoholic fatty liver, we divided the people into four groups: not central obesity and fatty liver group, not central obesity and not fatty liver group, central obesity and not fatty liver group, central obesity and fatty liver group. We compared the difference of metabolic indicators such as systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), fasting plasma glucose (FPG) between the groups.ResultWhen the two groups do not have fatty liver disease, in the case of age and BMI undifferentiated, there is no difference of metabolic disorders between central obesity group and not central obesity group. It states that if in absence of fatty liver, even though in presence of central obesity, people do not have obvious metabolic disorders. When the two groups have fatty liver, in the case of age and BMI undifferentiated, there is no difference of metabolic
