Solid-State Welding (SSW) is a process that produce coalescence of the faying surfaces at temperatures below the melting point of the base metal being joined. Pressure and temperature are two key factors in the SSW process. Why use SSW? Dissimilar metal joints are necessary in applications that require a variety of material properties within the same component. Importance of interface The study of dissimilar welds necessarily leads to studies of the interfacial region, because it is the most likely site of part failures. The interface behavior determines the weld quality.
