It is one of the two coordinating and integrating systems of the body, which acts through chemical messengers (hormones) carried in the circulation and is involved in many functions, such as maintenance of the internal environment, control of the storage and utilization of energy environment, regulation of growth, development and reproduction, and the body’s responses to environmental stimuli. Like a radio broadcast, it requires a receiver to get the message – in the case of endocrine messages, cells must bear a receptor for the hormone being broadcast in order to respond. ;Paracrine:A mechanism of growth control involving the synthesis of a soluble factor by one cell which then influences the growth and functional activities of near-by cells expressing the receptor for this factor. This mechanism of local growth control therefore differs from that mediated by endocrine factors involving the tr
