Analyzing the Chronological Leadership Theories by Focal Points of View in the United States of America Sangjin Rhee Gyeongsang National University, South Korea Abstract Traits of leader in leadership theory are not important except trait theory, but they seem to be important at the charismatic leadership and bad leadership. Behaviors of leader are very important at the behavior theory and are a little important continuously through chronological leadership theories. Contingency theory focuses only on situational variables. Individual values affect somehow to the trait theory and behavior theory. About value theory of leadership, individual values of leadership appear positively in the charismatic theory(1977), collective values of leadership appear in the transformational leadership(1978) for the first time. After all, value theory of leadership is evolved by the charismatic leadership and the transformational leadership. Individual values and collective values appear in the strategic leadership(1990) at the same time. Situational variables are applied from the Fiedlers contingency model to flexible leadership (2004) and ethical leadership (2006). Intervening variables are important from the path-goal theory of leadership to transformational leadership and also are important to the adaptive change leadership, the flexible leadership, and ethical leadership. Key words leadership theory, individual value theory, collective value theory, adaptive change leadership, ethical leadership 1 Introduction Leadership theories have been changed through various theoretical stages which are suggested in this study in USA during last 85 years. They have been developed through trait theory, behavior theory, and contingency theory. But even there are many leadership styles after 1970s, they are not classified as a theory.
