UNSAFE CONDITIONS are caused by UNSAFE ACTS and are sometimes called LEFT OVER UNSAFE ACTS. BEHAVIOR = it is something that we “do” - an observable act There is a recognition in the industry, supported by the authorities that many incidents are behaviour/act related. STOP is currently COPI behavioural safety program Avoidable Losses and Incidents So why do people work unsafely? Lack of knowledge or training; Unavailability, incorrect fit, awkwardness of using PPE; A habit - “I’ve always done it this way”; A belief that “it can’t happen to me” or “ it won’t happen this time”; A belief that unsafe practices are OK because no one has ever corrected them in the past. What is our Program Goal? To train employees to eliminate incidents and injuries by addressing safe and unsafe behaviors What will we Learn – as the Key?
