The novel taking the scarlet letter as the main line, describes the heroine Hester Prynne who shows us some personality such as rebellion, compromise and hypocrisy in the transformation of her. The profound significance of the novel lies in Hester Prynne’s transformation to the society and her achievement of true love through her own efforts. Besides, she changes people’s secular attitude toward the scarlet letter, and gives it more positive significance that reflected the female spirit. This thesis describes Hester Prynne’s personality in multiple points of view.
