Kennedy Brief introduction Everyone loves peace and harmony. Everyone hats war. Had once been into the ruthless war, Benjamin knew well about the cruelty of it. His intensive determination to prevent and to avoid the war is for less blood and sacrifice. But the time has changed. It was only after Gabriel showed such great will to join the army, his son was killed and his house was burnt that Benjamin realized the independence doesn’t come from the peaceful agreement or mild negotiation, and freedom can’t be found from stable normal life. After an uplifting revenge for his son, Martin gathered a militia to fight against the Redcoats. Extremely difficult as they were, the militia and some troops of regular won several battles and held on to the day when the French army came to help them. In the end, the American won a most essential battle and the scale of victory came to lean towards them. Three stages Thinking over the film, we can figure out several stages that Martin was on. That is, there are several certain turning points in his attitude and conception towards the war. At first, he dare not go to war with England for fears of losing family .At the beginning of this film was his guilty words “I have long feared…that my sins would return to visit me . And the cost is more than I can bear. “So he didn’t cast the vote, which would sent both his family and others to fight. Even when asked about his principles by an old comrade, Chris Cooper, he replied, “I’m a parent. I haven’t got the luxury of principles.” The second stage came not long .When the cruel even monstrous British Colonel William killed his son without mercy ,though Benjamin went to the war ,his struggle had appeared obviously to be a bit limit ,cause he was holding the state eager to revenge .There wasn’t any patriotism in this but rage for losin
