They are essential tools in almost every field of research and applied technology, from constructing models of the universe to producing tomorrow’s weather reports, and their use has in itself opened up new areas of conjecture. Computer and Internet sciences are developing so rapidly that they are pervasive in every aspect of our society and life, which forms computer and Internet culture. Concomitant with this computer and Internet culture is the large amount of computer metaphorical language. In this thesis, we won’t study the Computer and Internet sciences themselves, but the computer and Internet terminologies. Based on Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory, this thesis aims to make a systematic investigation of the metaphors ubiquitous in computer and Internet terminologies, making people aware of the various underlying metaphors in the computer and the Internet. Having collected much data from different sources, we categorize four conceptual metaphors in computer terminologies, namely the metaphors of COMPUTER as PERSON, FACTORY, OFFICE and CONTAINER. And there are seven in Internet terminologies, i.e. the metaphors of INTERNET as HIGHWAY, PERSON, CYBERSPACE, COMMUNITY, LIBRARY, MARKET and SEA.
