Publications65AbstractWiththedevelopmentofoursociety,theenvironmentwhichwedependontoliveisfacinggreaterandgreaterchallenges.Consideringthemselvesasthemasterofeverything,humanbeingsusuallyconquerthenatureanddestroythenaturewantonly,andasaresultthiscausesthetenserelationshipbetweenhumanandnature;inordertogainsocialandeconomicalinterests,humanbeingsoftenignorethesustainableabilityofnature,andthishascausedthetenserelationshipbetweensocietyandnature;thedecreaseofnaturalresourcesandtheformationofecologicalcrisisexpressthattheecologicalvaluesofpeoplehavegoneawrongway.Therefore,howtore-considertherelationshipamonghumanbeings,societyandnatureisaproblemmustbesolvedimmediately.Thisthesisaimstodigouttherootsofecologicalcrisis,torevealthedamagespeoplehavedonetonature,toleadpeopledoreasonablereflections,andatlastpeoplemaymergeintonatureandco-existwithecologyinthedevelopingprocessofeco-criticism:awareness—conflict—reflection.Thefirstchapterpresentstheearlyecologicalintentionandtheawarenessofecologicalconsciousness.In1840s,theauthorHenryDavidThoreauexpressedhisuniquenaturalviewsinhisfamousworkWalden.Headvocatesthatpeopleshouldbeinharmonywithnature.Heisagainsttheincreasingdesiresformaterials.Hestronglydisagreeswithhuman-centralismandadvocatesthespirituallife;inpractice,Thoreauadvocatessimplelifeandcallsuppeopletoprotectnaturewithourownbehaviors.Insum,wecansaythatthepublishingofWaldenisthemilestoneoftheawarenessofecologicalconsciousness.Thesecondchapterofthethesismainlyillustrateskindsofconflictsexistinecologicalliterature:theblindwarshipfortechnologymakespeopleproudandtheychangetheirattitudefrom“fear”to“contempt”;theconflictsbetweennaturalresourcesandsocialdevelopmentareintensified;wecannothavetherightecologicalvaluesbecauseoftheshortageofecologicalconsciousnessandsoon.TheworkTheOldManandtheSeawhichwaswrittenbythefamousauthorErnestHemingwayincludesrichecologicalphilosophies.Intheprocessofcatchingfish,theoldmanhasthedesireofconqueringnatureandonthecontrary,thenatureitselfhastheforcem
