AbstractAbstractAswellknown,thevideosignalhasaseriesofadvantagesofintuitive,accurateandefficient.Sincethe1990s,thedigitalvideotechnologyhasbeenwidelyappliedincommunicationandotherfields.However,thevideosignalisverylarge.Inordertoeffectivelyusethevideoinformation,wemustfirstsolvetheproblemofthevideocompressioncoding,andthensolvethequalityproblemofvideocompression.Thetwoproblemsarecontradictory.Ourpurposeisnotonlytogetahighercompressionratio,butalsotogetahighervideoquality.Therefore,theresearchonH.264/AVChasimportantsignificance.InternationalStandardizationOrganization(ISO)andtheInternationalTelecommunicationUnion(ITU)releasedanewvideocompressionstandardofH.264/AVCinMarch,2003.Thisstandardhasimproveddatacompressionratioandnetworkfriendliness.ThispapermainlyfocusesonContext-BasedAdaptiveBinaryArithmeticCoding(CABAC)entropycodinginH.264mainprofile.CABACisoneofthetwoentropycodingmethodsinH.264/AVCstandard,whichisaccordingtotheadaptiveprobabilityestimatesandbinaryarithmeticcodingtoachievebettercompression.BecauseencodingasinglebinarysymbolbyusingCABACrequiresagreatdealofcomputationincludingbinarization,contextmodelselection,binaryarithmeticcodingetc.,thisresultsinenormouschallengesforCABACapplication.UsingsoftwaretoachieveCABACalgorithmishardtosatisfytherequirementofhighqualityreal-timevideocoding,sohardwareimplementationofCABACalgorithmhasbecomeaneffectivesolutionmethod.However,duetothehighlyserializationofCABACandthecorrelationofcodeddata,theprocessingofparalleldatainthehardwarehasbecomeverydifficult.Inthisthesis,animprovedCABACencoderhardwarestructureisproposed.Inthisthesis,theH.264/AVCvideocodingframeworkandkeytechniquesarefirstlyintroduced.AndthenanimprovedCABACencoderhardwarestructureisproposedaccordingtotheexistinghardwarestructure.Basedontheproposedstructure,thearchitecturedesignisfinisedandverifiedbytheRTLsimulation.Afterthat,thehardwarearchitectureofthemainfunctionmodulessuchasthecontextualvariablesmanagement,RangeandLowupdatesandstreamgenerationarediscussedinde
