- - ii - Abstract The development of highway industry in China, especially the development of the freeway, provide a strong protection for the rapid development of the socio-economic, change peoples lifestyles, improve peoples living standards in recent years. However, the diversity and multiple problems of highway accidents, especially the remain of the high severity of the side of the freeway accidents for a long time has become one of the hottest issues of the harmonious development of society, and it has been broad interested. Therefore, the freeway roadside security has become an important issue that our national traffic have to face. And it’s urgent to analyze the accidents on the freeway roadside and propose appropriate security technologies. According to the 1429 accident statistics from 2010 to 2011 and 137 samples of roadside accident from Chang-zhang, Li-wen and Tai-jing three freeways in Jiangxi Province from 2009 to 2010,we present the safety protection techniques of the roadside of freeway systematically, which based on a full analysis of the characteristics of the accidents, aiming at providing a theoretical reference and technical support for security and facilities design of freeway roadside through the research of the related theories and methods. And the results will make a great contribution to the improvement of the overall safety level of freeways of our nation. Secondly, we introduce the traditional identification methods of the accident-prone point and their applicability, advantages and disadvantages. And then, we put up the identification of the accident-prone start point of Jiangxi Province freeway network as an example, analyzing the application of the number of accidents, accident rates, the matrix method, the equivalent number of accidents, mass control method comparatively; Fuzzy evaluation method has been used in a comprehensive evaluation of traffic safety of Li-wen Expressway, Jiangxi Province and the decision tree method has been u
