II II ABSTRACT Since the 1980s, the developing socialist market system caused a profound change of the structure of society, followed by economic transformation and social transformation. In addition, the accession to the WTO spurs on the developing China domestic market to harmonize with the global market. Under this circumstance, the higher education of China is getting the continuous impact of the market economy. In order to adapt to market mechanism, the intervention of the market has become an inevitable trend. So a new school system supported by universities and the non-government sectors — independent college— emerges as time required and suddenly rises as a new teaching system. It not only makes bold explorations in higher education system, but plays a positive role in expanding the educational resources and the scale of higher education. Independent colleges become an important part in higher education present and will remain so for a long time to come. However, as a new-born thing, during the process of the development of independent colleges, various problems and contradictions appear inevitably, especially the problem of the teacher’s troop construction, which has become the bottleneck held back the development and expansion of independent colleges. Based on the analysis and literature review of the motivation theories of the western world, adopting the research method of literature review, data collection, questionnaire, interview and so on, taking an independent college (hereinafter referred to as M college), this paper illustrates the following issues: the building of a scientific, instructive and practical motivation mechanism, which is helpful to arouse the teachers’ initiative and creativity and stimulate the teachers to fully serve the development of college, and puts forward the model of M college teachers’ motivation mechanism and suggestions for its application.
