Results should not be deemed as an industry average and may vary from published Gartner research. 结易思然顾问资料 Executive Summary In June 2002, Gartner Research defined a new category of IT infrastructure software - the Application Platform Suite (APS) – to describe the emerging IT infrastructure enabling IT to meet business demands for faster time-to-market and lower costs for application development and integration. 1 Introducing the APS, Gartner recognized that a fully integrated application platform may be more cost-effective and less risky than software infrastructure built on less integrated components, even if best-of-breed. An integrated APS offers enterprises an Enterprise Application Server, Integration Broker and Portal Server that shares a single middleware infrastructure, single systems management, single set of development tools, a single web services framework and a shared metadata repository. This study explores and quantifies time-to-market and cost advantages conferred by the integrated platform approach to IT infrastructure.
