AbstractAbstractThedynamicsofspiralpatternshavebeenstudiedindielectricbarrierdischargeatatmosphericpressureinArgon/Airbyusingwaterelectrodes.Thespiralformationhasalsobeensimulatedbythreecomponentreactiondiffusionequations.Arichvarietyofspiralpatternssuchassingle-armed spiral,dipolespirals,targetpattern,multiarmedspiralandspiraldefectchaoshavebeenobservedathighpdvalueforthefirsttime.Thespiralformationandevolutionandthecoredynamicshavebeenstudiedunderdifferentboundaryconditions.Inthefreeboundarycondition,thespiralpatternariseswhen thestripepatternundergoescoreinstabilityornotchinginstability,inwhichthenotchinginstabilityisobservedinexperimentforthefirsttime.Thecoreofthespiralwilldriftupward rapidly.Intheconfinedboundarycondition,thespiralpatternisformedbysidewallforcing,andthecorewill meander witha relatively lowvelocity.
