Overview
In accordance with the DESE Superintendent Evaluation process, this document provides an update and an overview of the Superintendent’s Goals, Strategic Objectives, and Strategic Initiatives as stated in the Reading Public Schools Strategy for Improvement of Student Outcomes. A copy of the document is located in the appendix of this report.
The information in this document is meant to provide artifacts to help assist the School Committee in the annual Superintendent summative evaluation as stated in the statute on Educator Evaluation.
I. Update on Strategic Initiatives for 2011-12 and 2012-13 School Year
A. Strategic Objective-Learning and Teaching- Deepen and refine our focus on the instructional core to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of each child.
Strategic Initiative 1- Develop and implement a plan to address the social and emotional needs of all students.
In June, 2011, the Reading Public Schools developed a Behavioral Health Task Force, which consisted of over 40 educators and parents. This task force examined the current practices of the school district using the DESE Behavioral Health Assessment Toolkit and developed a series of recommendations on how to improve the overall behavioral health of all of our students. Over the last several months, several of the recommendations are in the process of being implemented and several more will be implemented during the 2012-13 school year. Some of the recommendations that have been implemented include holding parent workshops, designing and implementing a Therapeutic Support program at Reading Memorial High School, designing new guidelines for homework over vacations, revising the chemical health regulations for athletics and extra-c
