What relevance is between those differences and the improvement of the farmers/herders’ production and livelihood? What are current institutional barriers to equal access and control by women and men farmers/herders over the production and management of livestock in China? How to improve the policies for achieving the gender equality while providing services in livestock production services? Research Methods Qualitative method Case study Survey method and tools: individual interview, group interview, institutional interview and PRA tools Sites studied Guobaoying Village and Xialama Village in Heringer County Sites Studied Gegenghusu Gacha in Chenba’rhu Banner Sex Division of Labor in Livestock Production and Management Preparation steps: shed is built up by the employee normally; if done by the family itself, men take the main role. Feeding and management: women mixture the fodders only when men go out; carrying mud, putting on mud, and cutting grass are all done by men; Men and women take the activities of silages storage, feeding, drinking, and cleaning the dung together. Marketing: men and women go to milking together, but in general, women go less often than men do. Sex Division of Labor in Livestock Production and Management In general, the activities men participate more are concentrating in productive area, while women are more concentrating in reproductive area.
