ii ii Abstract A Bite of China is a large food category documentary series shot by HD (high definition) equipment for the first time in China, which can let the audience feel the changes in China by the taste. Choosing the translation of A Report on the Translation of《舌尖上的中国》(A Bite of China) can build a platform for docking Chinese and Western culture and eliminating the estrangement so that the intercultural communications can go on wheels. This translation project is an attempt to apply translation theory and translation methods, skills and strategies the author has learned as a graduate student to practical translation, to become more clearly aware of translation problems, to learn to understand translation theory more profoundly, and to deepen our understanding of the nature of translation, the role of translator, translation strategies and procedures and to regulate our own behavior, in order to develop good translation habits. When translating the caption, the translator in detail records the whole translation process and writes the report. In this report, the author not only describes the translation process which can help us understand the implementation of the translation project, but also pay much attention to the case studies. Through analyzing the translation, we can get a more detailed understanding of the translator’s idea. Theory guides practice, so it is particularly important to understand the translation theory. As the original text of the translation project is taken from the television subtitles, the translator specially discussed the understanding of the subtitling translation in the summary. This report is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the source text, the text’s background, and linguistic features. The second part reviews the preparatory work before translation including the accumulation of food cultural background knowledge, the collection of reference books and legal terms, the duration of the translation, and quality c
