Afterwards different kinds of new films are brought in to China. So translation of film name becomes the key to the success of the imported films. Translation of film name is very important and full of creativity. It is not only a linguistic transference, but also an intercultural communication. A good translation can make the film more attractive and perfect, which will play an important role in enriching peoples daily life and promoting the communication of culture and art. The aim of this paper is to discuss thetranslating methods to pilot English-Chinese film names translation. 　　Key words: descriptive titles method 　　I. Introduction 　　Film was born in 1895 in Paris and gained fast development in 20th century. It becomes one of the most influential mass media in the world. Because of the policy of reform and opening to the outside world, more and more English films have been introduced to China. Besides the quality of these films, the actors wonderful performance, touchable theme and beautiful setting, a well translated name is also vital to the success of a good English film. Film name is a kind of trademark. It occupies a striking position in the film poster. A good name can arouse peoples interest to see it and bring them art and beauty enjoyment; but a not-well-translated name could make a good film overshadowed and people would feel confused after seeing the film. 　　Translation of film name is very important and full of creativity. It is not only a linguistic transference, but also an intercultural communication. 　　Satisfactorily, there are many good English films translations in our market at present, such as Waterloo Bridge《魂断蓝桥》and Shakespeare in Love 《莎翁情史》, many of which
