Abstract The Great Gatsby , is a work with strong practical significance and tragic flavor. F .Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” is rich in symbolism. He uses colors to symbolize the many different intangible ideas in the book. This paper, through extracting and analyzing the skillful employment of symbolism in aspects of colors in the novel discusses the deep connotation that is imparted to these symbolic entities by the novelist and explains the decisive role of the symbolism in the novel in shaping the figures, developing the plot of the story, and deepening the theme of the work.
