ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the relationship of the serum homocysteine with hyperlipidemia in the elderly people in the central urban area to provide a reference for the prevention of the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Methods: Total 275 cases of the elderly who had been physically examined and their Hcy detected were classified according to their gender and age and the relationship of their homocysteine and hyperlipidemia was compared. Results: The detection rate of high Hcy in the male elderly group aged between 70 to 79 was higher than that of the female group at the same ages (P0.05). The detection rate of high Hcy of the female aged above 80 who combined with high TC, high TG and mixed hyperlipidemia was higher than those of the normal Hcy group at the same ages (P0.05). The detection rate of the patients with Hcy combined with high blood TC, high TG and mixed hyperlipidemia had no obvious significant correlation with the people with the normal Hcy. Conclusion: The examination of the blood Hcy and lipid should be strengthened for the elderly people and intervened actively to reduce the occurrence of the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
