Research shows that the skill level of adolescence has highly relevant to activity level of adult, and participations in collective activities before the age of 12 have highly relevant to activity level of adult. P.E. in United States a, hoping to inspire the reform of P.E. in China.
United States P.E. is under the guidance of the NASPE National standards for P.E., under the guidance of the national standards for P.E., States have developed their own curricula, instruction, and assessment. United States national standards for P.E. spoke of competencies, defining what a student should know and be able to do. The standards proposed participation sports activities as a lifestyle. It is the unique role of quality P.E. programs to help all students develop health-related fitness, physical competence, cognitive understanding, and positive attitudes about physical activity so that they can adopt healthy and physically active lifestyles. According to NASPE guidelines, a high-quality physical education program includes the following components: opportunity to learn, meaningful content, and appropriate instruction.
United States Curriculum diamond suggests a curricular focus corresponding to the grade level structure - elementary, middle and high schools. In the elementary school the focus is building a foundation. In the middle school, the focus is exploring possibilities. In the high school the focus is developing expertise.
