According to NASPE guidelines, a high-quality physical education program includes the following components: opportunity to learn, meaningful content, and appropriate instruction. United States Curriculum diamond suggests a curricular focus corresponding to the grade level structure - elementary, middle and high schools. In the elementary school the focus is building a foundation. In the middle school, the focus is exploring possibilities. In the high school the focus is developing expertise.
