Abstract Since the reform and opening up of China, the city life rhythm is becoming more and more fast along with the high-speed development of economy and the speeding up of urbanization, and the urban public space as an important place in urban life has been widely constructed in the cities. However, it contains numerous resources environmental and social problems behind the high speed development and fast life rhythm, and large-scale urban construction has also brought up a large number of lost space out of human behavior scale and activities. The “slow city movement” in Italy in 1999 began to reflect on the highly developed and fast-paced life, and set up the worldwide slow city organization alliance.It encourages the natural and ecological small town with a long history to join,and advocates a kind of leisurely and slow way of life. Based on the above background and guided by the concept of slow city, this article puts forward the concept of slow public space, researches the slow attribute of public space, analysis the existing main problems and reasons of slow public space, explores the key of how to build the slow city public space system, researches the planning and design methods of how to slow down the public space,and try to provide the beneficial reference for the future urban public space planning and design and construction practice. The slow public space system constructed in the paper focus on the public space, including slow nuclear, slow area, slow porch and slow node four elements. It proposes the key point of system construction: plan key areas of slow space system, cohesion the slow space and the urban transportation system and link the network of slow space system.
