ABSTRACT Traffic noise is one of main urban noise sources. The concept of traffic soundscape shows up after discussing the categories and contents of origin soundscape research and analysing the characteristics of traffic. And what traffic soundscape want to study on is detailed proposed through the view of people, sound and environment. In order to stick out the specialties of traffic soundscape, a comparison about study objects and conditioning techniques between traffic soundscape and building soundscape is coming up. Traffic soundscape occupy an important position in our daily life, which needs lots of work to build a proper evaluation system of it. To know the sound environment of a specific area and to understand the law of sound is the first step to research the traffic soundscape of it. This paper set Tianjin University(Qilitai Campus) as an example to do the research of sound environment. It figured out the acoustic structure of the campus and sound laws, understood some of the pitfalls of the campus planning and road design and put forward some suggestions for improvement as well. Traffic soundscape faces two major research subjects which take part in the process of traffic -- pedestrians and drivers. What the pedestrians feel about the sound, their preference and subjective evaluation of the road are the important indices for evaluation of a certain section of the road design. In this paper, soundwalk experiment has been used to study the subjective evaluation of main roads in Tianjin University(Qilitai Campus), and explore some important factors which influence walking. Factors like outside scenery, the car interior noise and road condition will affect the drivers mental when driving.
