Jewett is always considered as a believer in extrasensory perception, as a nature lover and as a strong defender of women rights. Her reputation has been firmly established since her masterpiece, the novel The Country of the Pointed Firs, was published in 1896. Jewett’s fictions have always been appealing to country people especially country women, for their vivid portrait of women characters and natural landscape of rural areas. The Country of the Pointed Firs, her highest achievement, proves to be her typical characteristics. With the focus on environmental issues and women’s issues, The Country of the Pointed Firs has become a rising popularity research work. Currently, this novel has been established a series of interpretations involving such aspects as realism, regionalism, racism, materialism, feminism, culture and so on. Jewett is not an ecofeminist novelist in the strict sense, yet her ecofeminist ideas penetrate throughout her whole novel, which have not been adequately studied. This thesis attempts to interpret the ecofeminist presentations through the analysis of this novel in detail. The author of this paper maintains that the whole novel is imbued with the ecofeminist awareness through the penetration of three main clues, that is, the beauty of nature, the beauty of humanity, golden chain of love and dependence in community (or spiritual guide of the collective).
