Bao Yazhi Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of Master of Translation and Interpreting English Department School of Foreign Studies Nanjing University 摘 要 随着科学技术交流的增加，关于学术语篇的翻译也越来越多。翻译西方学术文献（文章和专著）的主要目的在于促进国内外的学术交流以及信息传播，然而，并非所有的译文都能达到这样的效果，一些译文虽然能够遵守原文语言的句法结构和行文顺序，但读起来却并不通顺，由于英汉两种语言的多方面差异，学术语篇中的长句，尤其是结构复杂的定语从句，一直是翻译中的难点，本文以学术语篇中尤其是科技类学术文本中的定语从句为例，力求从学术语篇中定语从句的翻译策略角度进行尝试性的探讨，并通过比较学习者与专家译者的译法差异，对于学术语篇中定语从句翻译的策略进行归纳总结，希望对于翻译的实践与教学有所启发。 关键词：学术语篇，定语从句，翻译策略，对比研究 Abstract With the increasing of the exchange of science and technology, more and more academic discourses have been translated. The main purpose of translating Western academic literature (articles and monographs) is to promote academic exchange and dissemination of information. Although some of the translation can comply with the original syntactic structure and language order, they are not fluent, nor can they achieve the purpose of exchange. The use of long sentences, especially the use of attributive clauses, is one of the distinctive features in English academic discourses. The difference in the structures between English and Chinese makes the translation of attributive clauses a problem in teaching and translation. Taking the attributive clauses in science text as an example, through a comparative study of the translation of attributive clauses in academic discourse between learners and experts and a probe into the causes, this thesis is going to summarize the translation strategies of attributive clauses in academic discourse with a view to improving the translating and teaching
