Optimization of the spatial distribution of institutions of higher learning in Hunan

Abstract: Balanced development of higher education is one of the major problems faced by Hunan higher education. Due to
various historical reasons,there is a significant difference in spatial distribution in Hunan institutions of higher learning. With
economic development and social progress, this difference has widened. In this paper, we analysis existing problems in the
spatial distribution of the status of higher education institutions in Hunan.Then we propose some suggestions to solve the
uneven spatial distribution of institutions of higher learning in Hunan: strengthening the guiding role of government,
increasing input in education, stimulating the enthusiasm of universities, encouraging nongovernmental sectors to run schools.
