Diagnosis may be difficult especially with non-radiopaque foreign bodies. Undetected wooden foreign bodies can cause significant morbidity, repeat visits, high cost, and extensive surgery. We report a case in which ultrasound was used in the Emergency Department to detect and remove wooden foreign bodies from the soft tissue. Ultrasound and other imaging modalities that may aid in the early diagnosis are discussed. The emergency physician in charge of the A 44-year-old lady presented to the emergency observation ward suspected retained foreign body with department (ED) in October 2003 with a chief abscess formation. Since access to high-resolution complaint of a puncture wound at the dorsum of her ultrasound was not available in the observation ward, left ankle. The day prior to presentation, she fell on a incision and drainage with blind surgical exploration tree and her left ankle was punctured. She claimed was done instead. As the patient claimed that the that she had removed all wooden materials already. direction of puncture was from distal to proximal, the Physical examination revealed a 3 mm puncture
