ABSTRACT7 ABSTRACT 7 ‘_ The last 30 years has witnessed a steady improVement of EI.T in schools. j HoweVer’E【T in many schools is still far from being satisfactory,and unable to meet the needs of the pol itical and economic deVelopment of the country.A national suIVey in 1 5 proVinces and cities made by the States Education Commission revealed that most of middle school leavers found it hard to communicate eVen in simple English aRer spendillg many years in lcaming English in class.The Grammar TransIation teaching method has hampered the eff-ectiVeness of both teaching and leaming.DLlring the last three decades, £here haVe been signi厅cant deVelopments in the theo叫and practice of TEL in the world.IⅥore emphasis has been put on the use of the language f.or pu叩oseml communication. AlthoLlgh adoption of CLT in China was not accidental,it met with considered resistance.ARer noting the obstacles白ced by Chinese EFL teachers who haVe trie(1 to inIplement the colnmunicati、e 峥 approach, the author in this paper of.f.ers guidelines fbr integrating the t communicatiVe approach with traditional methods,i.e.the eclectic teaching approach. The paper consists of f.our pans.In the矗rst part is an introduction about the cuITent status of f-oreign Ianguage education in junior high schools.It 内蒙古师范大学硕士学位论文points 内蒙古师范大学硕士学位论文 points out the adoption of CIJ in junior high schools and the resistance it meets in China.In the second part literature review in which the author analyzes traditional language teaching and communicative language teaching in details.Then the author explains how to integrate the two teaching methods in junior middle schools’English teaching.In the third part,the author adopts questionnaires and tests to collect data.Through the analysis of the data,the author reaches a conclusion in the fourth part: eclecticism can improve students’English leVels and deVelop their interest in English leaming.
