The main way that food and drugs interact are: Some foods may affect how a drug is absorbed. The drug may go into the body faster or slower or more or less of the drug may be absorbed. A food may also alter how a drug works. It may make it last a longer or shorter time in your body or may make it not have the desired effect on your medical condition. Similarly , drugs can change how a food or vitamin or mineral is absorbed or metabolized by the body. Finally a drug may make you feel more or less hungry than usual. Possible Drug-Food Interactions means food can affect drug absorption and can interfere with how a drug works; A drug may affect food absorption or how vitamins or minerals are used by the body, and a drug can affect appetite then influence how the nutrients works. It includes two form of interactions 1) Drug-Nutrient Interactions Medications, prescription and over-the-counter, can affect how the body uses nutrients. For individuals taking medications for long periods of time drug- nutrient interactions may lead to vitamin or mineral deficiencies.
