These fasteners differ from tip hardened tapping screws in which only the screw tip is case hardened. 本标准定义了传统碳钢自攻螺钉的要求，螺钉的整个表面经表面硬化的热处理。这些紧固件和只是顶端表面淬硬的自攻螺钉不同。 Conventional tapping screws are intended for general purpose applications such as fastening head liners, bezels, internal hardware, etc. The applications of these fasteners differ from tip hardened tapping screws which are intended for structural applications. The mechanical properties of conventional tapping screws will degrade if these fasteners are not properly protected and if they are used in a vehicle where they may be exposed to solutions used during manufacturing or if used where they may be exposed to water and salt.
