ABSTRACTVelocity ABSTRACT Velocity Based Adaptive Zone Routing Protocol Major：Circuit and System Name：Yuliang Cheng Supervisor：Associate Professor Jieying Zhou Ad hoc network zone muting protocol(ZRP)is one of the existed typical Ad hoc routing protocols．ZRP is a hybrid routing protocol which is locally proactive and globally reactive．In ZRP，each node proactively advealses its link state information over a fixed number of hops called zone radius．These local advertisements can provide each node with the 1inks of all nodes within the routing zone and that are reachable outside of the zone．The nodes on the boundary of the routing zone are called peripheral nodes which are used to find the routing information outside of the zone reactively．The goal of ZRP is minimizing the sum of the proactive and reactive control overhead． The design of ZRP has assumed that all nodes have uniform mobility．Through the simulation on ZRP，we find that the performances of ZRP in multiple scenarios where mobile nodes move with different mobility put up great differences．To gain a better and more stable routing performance in any scenario where mobile nodes move with non-uniform mobility,on the basis of ZRP，a new zone routing protocol named VBAZRP(Velocity Based Adaptive Zone Routing Protoc01)is presented in this paper which aUows different nodes choose different zone radius according to each node’s mobility． To fulfill the demand of the new protocol,the IntrAzone Routing Protocol(IARP) and Bordercast Resolution Protocol(BRP)of ZRP are modified．VBAZRP protocol presents a new IARP named VBA-IA which uses asymmetric request and reply mechanism and symmetric mutual update mechanism to maintain a node’s routing zone proactively and a new BRP named VBA-B which can forward routing query efficiently outside zones by virtue ofincluding relationship between nodes． This paper designs VBAZRP，presents and analyses the simulation results of the VBAZRP which are got on OPNET．The simulation results show tha
