One is that the trials that receive the most coverage are those involving celebrities or those whom the media have made into celebrities. Another criticism is that news coverage of trials is more likely to be entertaining than educational. Yet another criticism is that news coverage of high-profile trials does not give the public an accurate picture of how the legal system really works. News and the Social Order A final area of society in which news plays a particularly important role is sports. Newspapers have sports sections that are often larger than news sections. Our educational system is involved with sports at every level and, at the collegiate level, sports creates a major revenue stream for any institution.
