Step 1: Greeting
Step 2: lead in
First, have four students show two conversations, asking: which conversation is more polite?
The students will answer: the second one.
Conclusion: Today, let’s have a competition to be the most polite students.
Step 3: Summarize the patterns
T: Just now, why did you think the second conversation is more polite?
The students may answer: because there is a sentence “could you please…?” in it.
Then, ask students to give some other patterns.
For example: Could you please tell me…?
May I ask …?
I wonder if/where…,
I want to know …,
Pardon me, can you tell me…?
Excuse me, do you know…?
Would you mind telling me…?

Step 4: Help Lucy ask politely
T: Lucy wants to know some information about the Spring Festival. But she doesn’t know how to ask politely. Please help her.
